Daniele Ascani, LMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with two Masters from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and I have over a decade of experience providing therapy to clients of all ages, from diverse populations, all over New York City. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety and men’s issues.
I am passionate about helping others search for clarity and relief. And I am also a firm believer that therapy is a journey that may require utilizing different therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Psychodynamic therapy, Functional Family Therapy (FFT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Furthermore, I consider change a process and I am committed to provide my clients with a safe and trusting environment that encourages reflection and self-discovery.
During my career I have held a variety of clinical and supervisory positions in the non-profit and private sector and have vast experience in treating trauma and crisis intervention. I have developed my Clinical skills through training and the old fashioned way.…by engaging and working relentlessly with thousands of individuals and families. This allows me and my clients to immediately narrow down the areas where therapy should focus on. In short, I look forward to utilize my training and wealth of knowledge to make our sessions meaningful and purposeful.
ABOUT ME
I live in New York City with my wife and daughter and I understand the challenges of balancing professional and family life in a fast-paced urban environment. “This is the reason that motivated me to open a private practice, because I believed then (as I do now) that society expects NYC’s professionals to always produce, this is an incredible amount of pressure to place on any individual, in addition to all the other expectations we may have from our past, and eventually it takes a toll on the person’s life and especially on personal relationships”.
During my spare time. I enjoy running outdoors and traveling with my family. I am also fluent in Italian and Spanish and I love learning about different cultures.
HOW I GOT HERE AND WHY I THINK OUR TIME TOGETHER CAN HELP YOU
I arrived by plane like lots of other people, all jokes aside I grew up in Italy and during my childhood my parents gave me the best gift of all, the opportunity to travel. Meeting other cultures made me more sensitive to peoples’ challenges and struggles and when I finally relocated to NY (the ultimate melting pot) choosing psychology as a career became natural. Fast forward to the present, I have dedicated the last 15-years-of my life improving the well-being of others all over New York City. And in doing so I discovered two important facts. I think that they are somewhat unique to our town and that you should consider them before choosing someone that listens to you.
First, whether you are an immigrant or simply relocating from another state, Gotham inevitably captures you. I know that it sounds cliché but the energy of the city is present in every sector. And you will soon realize, if you have not already, that when you work and/or reside in an environment surrounded by thousands of talented people your desire to succeed becomes even greater. Every activity needs to be scheduled, every action requires a purpose and every minute calls for accountability. Because of this I believe that when you are looking for a therapist you should consider someone who is familiar with the challenges that your environment (not just your past) brings.
Second, when choosing a therapist you should be an informed consumer. Credentials and training are indeed important but so are other factors. For example, have you ever met someone or even a professional who had more degrees than a thermometer only to find out that you had nothing in common with? Indeed, I cannot guarantee that I am the perfect match for you. However, I am confident that after we have a consultation you will be able to assess and determine that with confidence.
